Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Where do you play?
We play at schools and leisure centres in London Canary Wharf, Docklands and North Greenwich. Our venues are conveniently located with easy commute by public transport, e.g. DLR, buses or tube. Details on the exact location and how to get there will be provided on our booking system, Meetup.
I am a just beginner, can I still come?
Even better if you come because practice makes perfect, right? Basically, we are open to players of all levels – fresh or beginner, intermediate, advanced players. We can coach and train you to get started as well.
How about a skilful player like me, can I still come?
Of course you are welcome. Treat this like a sparing event or to work on some little things that you always wanted to improve, e.g. net play, drop shots, jumping smash, etc. Good to keep fit and maintain your skills. Also, you may meet other skilful players there. Regardless, we would certainty give it a go to ‘beat’ you…
Am I covered by insurance?
This is a social meetup group and we are individuals getting together to play badminton for fun. LCWBC and our nominated hosts therefore accept no liability for any loss or injury, however sustained, while taking part in our events. If you want to cover yourself against injury to yourself or others, please make sure you have the appropriate insurance.
Do I play single or double games?
Depends on how many turn out. Our players generally prefer double games because they are more fun, more tactical and not too ‘stretching’ compared to single games.
How much does it cost?
We know that most people don't want to tie up with annual or monthly membership. That's why we operate on a "pay-per-play" basis. Our session fee is affordable, you can find this on the respective Meetup events. Feather shuttlecocks will be provided, but please bring your own racket.
When do I pay?
Please pay to the nominated host at the beginning of the session. Oh, preferably in cash please.
How do I book a spot?
Please go to Meetup to book your place. You need to register or sign up a free Meetup account, or you can use your existing social media account. Once registered, you can book our session on Meetup - see link below:
https://www.meetup.com/thelondoncanarywharfbadmintonclub/
As our spots are limited, please make sure that you book when you are most certainly can or will attend. Please do not abuse the booking system.
Can I still cancel my booking?
If you do need to cancel, please update your attendance status as soon as you know it.
Due to high demand, we operate on a reimbursement policy. Any no-show or late cancellation (less than 24 hours before the session) will be required to reimburse the session fee without exception. If you sign up on the waiting list, please check your booking status on Meetup regularly as you will be automatically given a place when a space becomes available (without your knowledge), which you will be liable for. Please always update your booking status (even on waiting list) on Meetup if you can no longer attend so that your space can be released to someone else.
